Ruth was my friend since 4th grade at Linden School and all through Allderdice.  She was a gentle, lovely person.  We attended each other's birthday parties for years and spent many enjoyable times together.  I left Pittsburgh for about 10 years and reconnected with her when I returned.  She was selling Italian ices outside Pitt Bookstore for a day, and I stood there with her, happily reminiscing and renewing our friendship.  That was in 1974, and we stayed close ever since then.  In recent years she suffered from a chronic pulmonary condition which left her fragile and weak.  But her sweetness always shone through.  She had been quite sick for a long time, but her death was still a shock.  I miss her very much, and my heart goes out to her family.

Ruthie ... I'm with Rick Vatz and Richard Fried. I did not know her well  - definitely my loss! She was so likeable and just plain nice. Exceptional in many ways. Sincere sympathy to her family and close friends.

I met Ruthie and her brother, Paul, when we went to Hillel Academy.  Ruthie was one of the sweetest people I have ever known.  I am really sad to hear that we lost her.  I remember with fondness the time she invited our classmates out to the family farm, where we rode their ponies.  May she Rest In Peace.   Rich Walters

Wow. With all the wonderful tributes all of you are paying to Ruthie, I feel somewhat diminished that I don't recall her and, more so, that I didn't know her back then.

Ruth and I became good friends in second grade and remained very close always.  I spoke with her on her birthday, May 2nd, and again on May 4th, and she was optimistic that she would be released from the hospital soon. So, although she had been compromised by a persistent lung infection for years, her death was unexpected.  Her passing has left a huge hole in my heart.  I flew to Pittsburgh to sit shivah with her family and was reminded how consistent Ruth was with her kindness, compassion, and generosity to all.  What many of you may not know is that Ruth and I spent part of the 70's together living a wild and crazy life in California (I still live there.) We first lived at my brother's home in Palo Alto, initially sleeping in his gardening shed and later in his garage.  My brother had a cabin overlooking the ocean, and Ruth and I made tie dyed shirts and wall hangings there.  We sold them on the Stanford campus.  We explored much of California together with our dog Guida.  Even while we lived like hippies, Ruth carried herself with a calm grace that I always admired.  I feel honored to have shared so many years of friendship with Ruth.  May she rest in peace.  Linda Feldman

Ruth Weinberger was a student of mine at T.A.H.S. too many years ago and I did not know she was my cousin till much later. All that each of you has said is so true about her. Not too many years ago i saw her and chatted with her at  a family gathering in Washington, DC. She was already sick and frail.  May she now rest in peace. Sorel Faith Berman

I'm so sad to learn of Ruth's passing - and sorry that she suffered such a long illness.    We were good friends during our years at Allderdice, but lost touch after graduation.  She always had that quality of gentle kindness.  I remember her fondly.....
