Elaine needs a message here. Sorry I've been away from the Forum too long traveling to Chicago and Santiago Chile and preparing a lot of talks. Elaine went to Mifflin. I don't recall exactly when she started there but my memories of her were not from the first years but rather later. She was a tall, lovely girl. She had a lot of talent but there wasn't as much for girls to do as for boys then. Perhaps she could have put her height to good use in sport. She had the makings of a model, but I'm not sure she ever pursued that career. She was a good friend of several of the girls I considered friends and wasn't too shy to talk to, but I did not know Elaine well myself, and I consider that my mistake and my loss. From my good friend and classmare Mary Ann Wolfe Barrington whom I have known since age 5 in kindergarten, I have learned that Elaine had a tough life with some sorrows, but she made a contribution. Her obituary tells us a little about that. Let's all say a good word for her and be happy that we are still around to have learned of her death and to reflect on the happiness we have in our own lives.

Sorry to hear about Elaine's passing. I do remember that we had a class or two together. Since I been away from Pittsburgh since 1968 I didn't know about her problems
