With sadness we acknowledge the passing of time and another classmate. Ellen, as a grade school classmate at Wightman, I recognize in our class photos from the 50's more than I would know her in our lives beyond those Solway Street days of fire drills and air raid warnings. It is with a bittersweet pleasure to read of her life's work and devotion to family. What else could one wish to be said of them, of any greater value. There will be no doubt that her memory will be a blessing for family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear about Ellen.  We dated for a few months in high school and I knew her to be a good, kind, decent person.  Somewhat reserved, if I recall.  We shared a few interests.  I believe she played viola in orchestra (those were my days as a bassoonist) and both took bookkeeping.  Apparently she, like I, went on to major in accounting in college, Ellen at Penn State and I at the Wharton School.  I was impressed to learn she got her CPA and ultimately started her own CPA firm.  In Pennsylvania, you had to practice with a CPA firm for at least two years before sitting for the CPA exam, or for one year, if you got a masters degree in accounting.   It was initially my intention to stay at Wharton for a masters, but when I was set to graduate in 1968 (along with my classmate, Donnie Trump), Vietnam was raging.  Rather than risking being drafted, I opted to go to Penn Law for three years, so that I could join Penn ROTC and defer, if not avoid, Vietnam.   A bunch of us in our law school class were ROTC cadets and wore our Army fatigues to class on days when we had ROTC drills.  Those were some times!

It was good to read that Ellen had a full, albeit too short, life and was able to enjoy a nice family.  I will remember her with fondness.

May Ellen's memory be a blessing.

I did not really know Ellen Meritt in high school. However, this past  April my husband and I took our 13 year old grandson on a trip to Italy which happened to have other grandparents and their grandchildren. Ellen, her husband Larry and their 13 year old grandson  were on the same trip. The first night at dinner when everyone was introducing themselves we realized we both graduated from Allderdice the same year. We could not believe that here we were in Rome and we were in the same graduating class. From that moment, we connected and spent the entire trip  together. We felt like we had known each other forever and stayed in touch after the trip ended.
Ellen was so easy to be with. Her attitude about everything was so positive. She was just a good soul.I feel so lucky to have been able to call her my friend. She is someone I will never forget .

I remember Ellen from elementary than high school. Although she and I were not close friends, Ellen  impressed me with a quiet determination. Her success in business does not surprise me and her personal life appears to have been equally as fulfilling. I'm sorry she will not be around to enjoy her life and her accomplishments. Hopefully, she is at peace.

I, too, am so sorry to be reading about Ellen.  And, I am so sorry to know that we did not live very far away from each other and I did not know that fact.  She and I were good friends at Wightman. Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her.
