Just a somewhat irrelevant note…I have lived in or near Baltimore for a half century, and I am an inveterate Orioles and Ravens’ fan…almost every night I write Facebook posts about the resurgent Orioles, but I periodically make references to Bob Princeisms and memories of The Great Roberto, about whom I have written (see Vatz and Clemente on Google)…not a post mortem Face fan.
I remember Paul quite well from Allderdice, and he was simply an all-round good guy, decent, funny and grown up early. I should have written this earlier, but he was an excellent high school colleague...Rick Vatz.

Shocked to hear of Laird's passing this morning. I had e-mail communication with him up until a month or two ago. Just a wonderful man with a wonderful family...a clever and sensible and loving family man...tough tough day...Rest in Peace, my friend...as I say, shocking...
Shocked to hear of Laird's passing this morning. I had e-mail communication with him up until November, when he told me he may have a tumor.. I was not overly close to Paul, but I knew him and had the same reaction to the young Paul Recht as I had reading about him here: a good man, and ever rarer, a good young man, mature and responsible and likable as a TAHS bud...a significant loss to the class of '64...Richard Vatz
One of my few giddy memories from high school was Mr. Rankin's class -- whom Rick called "Strankin" ("Mr. Rankin" slurred) - wherein Henry Henry, Rick and I laughed consistently (I know -- utterly irresponsibly) inside at Mr. Rankin's out-of-it-ness. Rick introduced me to deadpan humor in that class.
Just a great guy -- Rick Grove...to be sorely missed...
