I have been teaching, writing, making media appearances, and I have a new book out published by Kendall Hunt, THE ONLY AUTHENTIC BOOK OF PERSUASION (2013).

The revised book, published by Kendall Hunt, will be available on August 21, 2014 and is renowned for its "Agenda-Spin" model of persuasion.

The book is newly published by Authors Press, THE ONLY AUTHENTIC BOOK OF PERSUASION: the Agenda-Spin Model, Seventh Edition, 2022

Retired 1/1/2023. Towson University Auditorium named after me The Richard E. Vatz Auditorium — wherein I taught for 48+ years…

Named to Marquis Who’s Who, 2023

Won the most teaching awards, longest-serving on the Towson University Senate. published several books, over 150 articles and op-eds and continue to make media appearances and, finally, have irritated all of those to my liberal side…

School Story

Pre-eminent positive teacher memory: Mrs. Goff...

Anyone remember the excellent one-year choir director Mr. Hamilton? Loved choir -- that year.

Other great teacher memories: Coach Giovani -- unbelievably personable and encouraging. Really liked Miss Berman. Sorel? Not as great as Mrs. Goff, but excellent.

Met my lifelong closest friend Lee Weinberg \after\ graduation...

I write quite a bit on political and psychiatric rhetoric in the academic press and on radio and television; here are several pieces from the popular press:

Just a somewhat irrelevant note…I have lived in or near Baltimore for a half century, and I am an inveterate Orioles and Ravens’ fan…almost every night I write Facebook posts about the resurgent Orioles, but I periodically make references to Bob Princeisms and memories of The Great Roberto, about whom I have written (see Vatz and Clemente on Google)…not a post mortem Face fan.

I remember Paul quite well from Allderdice, and he was simply an all-round good guy, decent, funny and grown up early.  I should have written this earlier, but he was an excellent high school colleague...Rick Vatz.

Shocked to hear of Laird's passing this morning.  I had e-mail communication with him up until a month or two ago.  Just a wonderful man with a wonderful family...a clever and sensible and loving family man...tough tough day...Rest in Peace, my friend...as I say, shocking...

I was not overly close to Paul, but I knew him and had the same reaction to the young Paul Recht as I had reading about him here: a good man, and ever rarer, a good young man, mature and responsible and likable as a TAHS bud...a significant loss to the class of '64...Richard Vatz

One of my few giddy memories from high school was Mr. Rankin's class -- whom Rick called "Strankin" ("Mr. Rankin"  slurred) - wherein Henry Henry, Rick and I laughed consistently (I know -- utterly irresponsibly) inside at Mr. Rankin's out-of-it-ness.  Rick introduced me to deadpan humor in that class.

Just a great guy -- Rick Grove...to be sorely missed...

I was not close to Rick Slone, but I was in some regular collegial contact with his close friend Denny Farber, and so I heard much about Rick derivatively over the years.

He was an iconic member of our class of ‘64 at Allderdice, and whenever people would speak of that class, Rick was someone who would personify it.

He and Joyce shared that personification together, and her poignant description of their history adds to the significance and poignance of his passing.

He will be tremendously missed by all graduates of that class.
